I am one of the rare people in America who don’t use a cell phone regularly I find them to be useful when I want to get in contact with someone or in emergencies but beyond that they are more of a nuisance to me. When I know a person is available and I simply want to send them a quick message and they are not by their computer I send them a txt / sms message with my email
The first thing you will need other than the number you are calling is who is their service provider. if you have lived in the area and pay attention to people and their cell phones usually you can figure this out by the prefix of their number. IF you don’t know simply ask them or you can Google the number with area code and prefix followed by cellphone service provider” that’s what I do and within a few clicks I have it figured out.
Now you need to have the “email domain for the cellphone serivce provider. Below I have put in many of the service privders I have come across sending text messages through email.
AT&T: phonenumber@txt.att.net
Alltel: phonenumber@message.alltel.com
CellularOne: phonenumber@mobile.celloneusa.com
Cingular: phonenumber@cingularme.com
Nextel: phonenumber@messaging.nextel.com
Nextel: phonenumber@messaging.nextel.com
Omnipoint: phonenumber@omnipointpcs.com
Qwest: phonenumber@qwestmp.com
Sprint: phonenumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com
T-Mobile: phonenumber@tmomail.net
Verizon: phonenumber@vtext.com
Virgin Mobile: phonenumber@vmobl.com
When sending txt message email remember to keep it short and to the point. you are sending a message not a letter. keep the number of characters low around 150-160
subject lines are optional but keep them short also a couple words …
that’s it for now.

UPDATE.
I was informed if by chance you use yahoo mail online you can add a mobile contact and send them a txt message that way… looking at their screen it was in the lower left corner of yahoo mail…
I know google has some sort of mobile feature but at current it is beta and invite only maybe I should see about getting access . Will post later and let you know about google txt messaging service when I know more.
oh yeah you may have to test some of these out from what I can figure some service providers are blocking certain email domains from sending txt email.
